Everyone has to start somewhere

The thing that many people neglect to mention about the beginning of a personal yoga practice is simply this - everyone has to start somewhere.

Read that again to yourself silently, internally.

Everyone has to start somewhere.

What I mean by this is (and I say this often) - not a single one of us emerges from the womb with a full knowledge of yogic practices. We learn through experience and through sitting with our teachers over an amount of years. I promise you that I definitely was not born chanting !

At times, I’ve heard students and friends confide in me about their fear of stepping into a yoga class. They felt afraid of the judgment of others, of appearing inexperienced, of not being ‘flexible’ enough. The list goes on.

If we approach our practice with a sincere, open heart, there is nothing at all to fear. That is one of the only requirements to start on the path of yoga. Everything else will follow naturally with time and devotion.

I wish you all the courage needed to take that first step through attending a class, meeting a teacher or reading more deeply. I can promise you that it will be worth the effort.
