How to fly with an emotional support animal within the Philippines

I’ve created a little guide for those seeking to travel with a therapeutic animal ( also known as an emotional support animal ) within the Philippines. I get asked this question very often as I fly with Tate so thought it was time to share this guide. I hope it can be supportive of your journey to wellness and healing.

Through my studies in counselling and trauma-informed yoga practice, as well as my lived experience, I definitely advocate for trained support animals to accompany those in need.

As far as I know, Cebu Pacific is the only airline that allows therapeutic animals in the cabin within the Philippines. Please note that they kindly offer this service free of charge so I ask anyone using this guide to only use it to transport trained support animals.

Documents needed

  1. Medical letter confirming your need for a therapeutic animal.

  2. Trainer’s letter or other proof that your animal is a trained therapeutic animal/ service animal. It can be helpful to state your dog’s previous training and experience of flying.

  3. Vaccination record - confirming your dog is vaccinated against rabies. You need to bring this to your vet to obtain your vet travel certificate.

  4. Veterinary travel certificate - confirming your dog is fit for airplane travel which is obtained from your regular vet

  5. Travel permit - this can be obtained from the NVQSD-BAI website or through arriving at the airport BAI desk a few hours before your flight.

  6. Online booking of space via Cebu Pacific - you must book a space for your dog under their ‘Declaration/ Request’ section. You may also book in via phone or FB messenger.

Additionally, your dog needs to be both muzzle trained and comfortable with a harness. You will be asked to muzzle and harness your dog at times within public spaces. It is also advised to bring a diaper for your dog to wear.

In my personal experience, your therapeutic animal will be asked to stay under the seat so they must be trained and comfortable doing so. Your dog must also be able to stay quiet from the airport and into the flight without barking or disturbing passengers. This is why time with a trainer is required in the documentation.

For the most up to date information, you can chat to Cebu Pacific on FB Messenger.

Tate and I wish you the best journey ! I hope this was helpful in supporting you.
